Agape is committed to providing an internship experience that will acquaint students/recent graduates with the working environment of the therapeutic riding industry, while providing them with hands-on experiences in the barn and arena.

Interns will:

  • Gain experience working with adults and children with special needs 
  • Gain experience working in a non-profit 
  • Learn about horses and the field of Equine Assisted Services 
  • Learn valuable leadership skills through partnering with horses 
  • Build upon soft skills that all employers look for such as: communication, teamwork, adaptability, problem solving, and creativity
  • Grow personally and professionally through getting out of your comfort zone 
  • Understand the importance of “grit and grace” 
  • Have an unforgettable experience supporting Agape’s mission 

What are we looking for in an Intern?

  • Highly motivated/self starter 
  • Strong interest in learning and willing to ask questions
  • Responsible and dependable
  • Accepting of feedback and coachable
  • Positive attitude 
  • Willing to do physical labor and work outside 
  • Interest in non-profit work, special needs, social work, horses, teaching, etc. (Horse knowledge is not required but comfort around horses is a must.)
  • High school Juniors/Seniors or College Students 

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting participants in therapeutic riding lessons through sidewalking 
  • Leading horses in therapeutic riding lessons
  • Planning and leading a rotation for summer camp experiences
  • Prepping barn, arena, and horses for various equine assisted services
  • Assisting with trainings and events 
  • Caring for the herd through feed time and daily barn chores 
  • Inputting data 
  • Attending team meetings 

*Although internships are usually unpaid, interns find their experience at Agape priceless!

Actual start/end dates vary according to our program schedule and will be agreed upon during the onboarding process. Please indicate your availability on your internship application.
